Kazan University Listed among Best BRICS Universities in New THE Rankings

The new table of BRICS and emerging economies was published on December 3rd, with Kazan University occupying 31st place.

The number of Russian universities rose from 7 to 11 year-to-year. KFU is now fifth nationwide – after Moscow State, Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic, Tomsk Polytechnic and MEPhI. The leaders are Peking University and Tsinghua University, Moscow University rose to 3rd position this time. There are 200 universities from 35 countries in total.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov commented, “Methodology of BRICS&EER is basically the same as of the main THE rankings, but with some nuances. Namely, more weight is given to innovative activities and internationalization as well as industry income. All these indicators at KFU doubled in the last 5 years, and the number of foreign students even tripled, so this contributed to our result in the rankings”.

He added that this high esteem is of serious benefit to the further global promotion of Kazan University. The University can thus attract more interest from enrollees and their parents as well as from the Russian and overseas businesses seeking partnership. It’s important that these businesses hail from the countries keeping up the world economic growth, China being the first by GDP, India – third, Russia – sixth, and Brazil – seventh.
