Kazan and Leipzig: Verges of University Cooperation

On September 26, 2012 professors, teachers and students had a meeting with Dr. Andreas Maedebach, a scientific officer of the Cognitive Psychology department of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutics and Psychology of Leipzig University. The meeting was held in the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology.

Reference information: Leipzig University is one of the oldest classical institutes of higher education in Europe, where students are trained in all the basic specialities referred to natural sciences and humanities. Names of world-famous persons connected with Leipzig University are T. Fekhner (1801-1887) and V. Wundt (1832-1920) who laid the foundations of experimental psychology. V. M. Bekhterev attended lectures given by V. Wundt in Leipzig University. Bekhterev was so much inspired by his experimental devices and works that upon his return from Germany he founded an experimental psychological laboratory in Kazan, which has become the first laboratory of that type in Russia.

Two scientific-and-educational reports were made and discussed during the meeting: “On organizing of training in psychology in Leipzig University” and “Lexical Activation processes”.

The first report told the audience about the history and modern organization of psychological education in Leipzig University, as well as about implementation of Bologna process ideas and principles. Teachers and students learnt a lot of new interesting facts about the quantity of subjects and learning packages in each semester of Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree courses, their content and peculiar features. The quantity of Master’s Degree programms allocated in Leipzig University for the speciality “Psychology” is slightly lower than the quantity of Bachelor’s programms, so practically each bachelor can continue his study at Master’s level. Russian students can apply for these courses, provided that they have a bachelor’s diploma with the required package of studied subjects, good knowledge of the English and German languages. In contrast to many other German higher education institutions, there are no education charges collected in Leipzig University.

The second report presented the results of research in experimental psycholinguistics.

Kazan Federal University hosted several Leipzig professors-psychologists starting from 2009. The first results of joint research led by Associate Professor E. Alekseeva on the KFU side were published in international journal included into Scopus.
