Kazan University to Receive Up to 100 Million Rubles a Year in Additional Funding on Medical Education

The news came from the federal Ministry of Education and Science on October 14th.

Nine universities tried their best to impress the commission with their pitches, but not everyone was successful. KFU made the list of the lucky ones. Rector Ilshat Gafurov said: “Without any false modesty we can state: medical education and research in KFU are one of the leading in Russia”.

The funding within the University Competitiveness Program and Development Program is aimed not only at physicians themselves (who, by the way, only amount to 14 percent of medical employees in the country), but also at researchers, technical experts, equipment operators. Only classical universities can cope with this range of tasks. The sum is pretty impressive – 100 million rubles a year for three years. Where does the money go?

Andrey Kiyasov, Director of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology: «The goal here is to fully modernize the medical education. This can be made outside of the federal educational standard framework because we as a federal university can adopt our own standards. This opportunity can be at hand here. Everything for our students and faculty».

KFU is already one of the largest medical centers in the Volga region, having its own research, pharmaceutical production, and the University Clinic. Another victory in a funding competition attests to the positive change that we are witnessing in this regard.
