Kazan University Continues Partnership Activities with Cuban Petroleum Companies

KFU's lecturers read a course for Union Cuba-Petroleo's employees.

The course was tailored specifically for the company's need by the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies. Lecturer Boris Platov and Chairman of the Department of Mineralogy and Lithology Vladimir Morozov were the two individuals chosen for the task.

«Our group comprised 22 people, mostly young. The students showed very good knowledge of geology, it was very interesting to communicate with them, even though we had to do it through an interpreter», said Mr. Platov.

He added that the Cuban geological situation is very complicated: there are oversteps, carbonate basins, joint systems, and viscous oils. And, to add to the grief, the biggest oil deposit is right under the best beach of the island.

The Russian guests also spent some time with Cupet's management. Mr, Platov talked about the ambitious goals that the company has in mind: horizontal wells up to 11 km in length, advanced geonavigation, newest oil recovery technologies, and establishing their own modelling center. All this can be done with the help from KFU and its competent employees.

No bumps are expected on this road since next month another Cupet's delegation will visit the University.

Naturally, the two Kazanites were also very impressed with the natural beauties of the island and pleasantly surprised with how many people here can speak Russian.
