Islamica Center to Be Headed by Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences Vitaly Naumkin

During the opening of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque Rector Ilshat Gafurov held meetings with prominent Orientalists.

The negotiations pertained to both education and research. Dr. Gafurov noted that Kazan University returns to its 19th century glory in Oriental studies through its hard work in preparing professionals who are both fluent in languages and well-informed about political and economic processes in their respective studied regions.

One of the talks resulted in appointing a new Director of Islamica Excellence Center - that will be Vitaly Naumkin, Member of the Russian International Affairs Council, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Research Consultant at the Institute of Oriental Studies of RAS.


"Vitaly Naumkin is a prominent figure in Oriental studies, ‑ said Director of IIRHOS Ramil Khayrutdinov. ‑ He is a political scientist, one of the leading researchers in humanities and social sciences in Russia who works on the most complex and pertinent problems of regional and global development. He makes a sizable contribution to defending the national security of Russia, implementing the country's foreign policy. He is not only a researcher but also an educator - Chair of the Department of Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Politics of Moscow State University.

Thanks to his experience and expertise we will be able to graduate even more competent professionals prepared to adequately assess current challenges and threats, protect their country's vital interests and contribute to global stability and peace.

This is completely in line with the University's strategy and Rector's instructions".
