Kazan University Is One of Three Biggest Teachers' Training Centers in Russia

Rector Ilshat Gafurov suggests building a new facility for Volga Regional Center for Advanced Teachers Training.

The traditional August educational convention this time was titled ‘Contemporary Education: New Strategic Landmarks – New Decisions’ and took place in Bugulma on August 21st. Mayors, ministers, researchers and educators gathered to discuss pertinent questions. Interim President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov opined that education in Tatarstan has developed very rapidly in the past 5 years. He added that there are now much more innovative elements in the educational process and mentioned KFU’s IT Lyceum and Lobachevsky Lyceum as good examples of this.

Minister of Education of Science Engel Fattakhov told the audience that he was satisfied with the professional retraining of school principals and fast-paced renovations in schools and kindergartens. Among the problems is the lack of physics teachers in rural schools.

Rector of KFU Ilshat Gafurov shared his vision of teachers’ education. He said, ‘The merger with two normal universities – namely in Kazan and Yelabuga – made Kazan University one of the three biggest educators’ training centers in Russia. We are also one of only five universities to graduate teachers in all standard curriculum subjects of secondary school’. Dr. Gafurov added that teachers’ education at KFU is distributed: this means that physicists are taught at the Institute of Physics, chemists – at the Institute of Chemistry, and so on. All the programs are supervised by the Institute of Psychology and Education. Coordination Council on Pedagogical Education is the ground for discussions with the participation of the most influential employers. Rector also spoke about master’s programs in teachers’ education.

Participants of the conference also visited several schools in Bugulma. Last but not least, municipal offices from all over Tatarstan were very glad to receive brand new school buses.
