Enhancing oil recovery – a new project by KFU and Middle East Technical University

May 13-15 KFU received Prof. Dr. Mustafa Versan Kok a leading expert in calorimetry, fire flooding and other thermal recovery methods, Head of Petroleum  & Natural Gas Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University (Turkey).

Note: Prof. Mustafa Versan Kok – a member several global organizations, such as International Confederation for Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (ICTAC), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Carbon DioxideKnowledge Transfer Network- Committee (CO2NET). He is also editorial board member of   Oil Shale, Petroleum Science and Technology, and Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry with H-index of 29.

Mustafa Kok met with Danis Nurgaliyev, Vice Rector for Research, and the leadership of Alexander Butlerov Institute of Chemistry and Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies. They discussed cooperative exchange programs, research and education projects. The guest delivered 4 lectures on fire flooding and steam gravity drain, their implementation afield in the USA, Europe, Asia and Tatarstan, and the results of lab studies dedicated to those methods using thermal analysis and calorimetry. Dr. attended chemical and geological labs and got acquainted with the scientists involved in joint research.

Professor was impressed with the history of the Kazan University and its current potential.  As a result of the visit, parties will draw up an agreement to work in partnership in the field of physical chemistry, petroleum chemistry and production.

P.S.: Middle East Technical University is a leading technical university in Turkey. 31 000 students (1700 of which are international) attend METU. The university employs 2500 professors and lecturers, 500 lab engineers and 2000 researchers. The university puts special emphasis on research and education in engineering and natural sciences, offering about 40 undergraduate programs within 5 faculties, and 97 masters and 62 doctorate programs within 5 graduate schools.

Recently, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings published in 2014 placed METU at the 85rd position worldwide.
