Cutting-edge equipment at the expense of KFU Development Program was installed at the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Human Health just a month ago. Now our scientists can study effects of bioactive substances and pharmaceuticals on heart directly. 

The amount of those who wish to work with the isolated heart is growing rapidly day to day. The Department  is offered collaborations by microbiologists, pharmacologists, biochemists, clinicians. No surprise though, because a similar setup operates only at Moscow State University.  

Department's main research interest is molecular and cell mechanisms of heart development regulation. We're pleased that financial support from various grants gives our team an opportunity to expand the research .

Timur Zefirov, the Head of the Department, is an author to 3 monographs and more than 200 articles, 47 of which are in Scopus and Web of Science databases.  

In order to obtain the most up-to-date results, discover and promote academic accomplishments of Kazan University in the world's renowned scientific journals it's essential to create a system of 5 electrophysiological setups. It will allow studying heart functioning of a whole body as well as particular cardiomyocyte membranes molecule role. With that some great breakthroughs seem to be around the corner.

"New era in heart treatment, I think, started in the last century when mixed currents were discovered and under study. These currents determine the heartbeat which should be rhythmic. It is only our Department that deals with this problem in Russia. Only recently we have published 3 articles about mixed currents in Russia's leading periodicals also published abroad such as Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine and Russian Journal Of Physiology"  - shares professor Zefirov.
