With the aim of creating in Tatarstan of an IT-university the KFU resources will be used

Memorandum of understanding was signed today, the 5th of September, in Pittsburgh (USA, Pennsylvania) between Tatarstan Republic and the structural IT-department of the Carnegie Mellon University – iCarnegie. The document was signed by the President of Tatarstan Republic Rustem Minnikchanov and the Exe­cutive Director of iCarnegie Gil Taran.

It is planned to create in Tatarstan an international educational center of federal value for the preparation of 5.000 IT-specialists annually. iCarnegie is expected to develop an internationally recognized educational system, which includes a scientific and research and educational IT-university of the world class, awarding bachelor and master degrees, and lots of opportunities for the professional education and training of leading workers. iCarnegie will also grant services for the development of academic and administrative infrastructure of the IT-university.

For the creation of a modern IT-university in Tatarstan in the framework of the “Innopolis” sputnik-city project all the Republic and Kazan federal University resources will be used as well.

Russian Federation and Tatarstan Republic were represented at the meeting by the Vice-minister of IT and telecommunications of Russia Mark Shmulevitch, Deputy Prime-Minister of Tatarstan – Minister of informatization and communication Roman Shaykhutdinov, Rector of Kazan federal University Ilshat Gafurov and others.

Tatarstan representatives studied the project “Intelligent Workplace Lab” at the faculty of architecture of the Carnegie Mellon University. It is a habitable laboratory with designed as a building on to the existing academic building of the university. This laboratory is occupied with the research and innovations in the sphere of workroom design. It is assumed that this type of research will improve the office workers’ lives by means of creating the individual comfort and increasing labor productivity. 

The next object was the Entertainment Technology Center of the Carnegie Mellon University. Here are gathered the students with different academic profiles for the further education and aiming at receiving the master degree. Within 2 years they learn to work in a team on common projects – these are designers, animation specialists, painters, IT-specialists etc. Graduates work in future in the sphere of interactive media industry, for example by “Disney”, “Picsar”, “Electronic Arts” and others.
