Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, Council of State of the Republic of Cuba education advisor and Emilio Lozada García, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in Russian Federation, visited Kazan Federal University on April 1. ​

During the meeting with Ilshat Gafurov, Rector of Kazan University, the Parties discussed issues related to the development of mutual research projects and academic exchange. Particularly, it was reported that from the beginning of the next academic year 2015-2016 100 quotas will be assigned on the admission of Cuban prospective students to Russian universities. At the very beginning undergraduate, master and PhD programs in key priority areas of KFU were discussed.

It is worth noting that this year Republic of Cuba launches Advanced Sciences Center, central focus of which will be concentrated on research in nano- and biotechnologies, this will allow establishing cooperation between KFU and Cuban scientific centers in these areas.

In the course of the visit President's education advisor of Cuba also got acquainted with lab facilities of Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, precisely, new class-room for medical physics. Infrastructure of KFU's Simulation Center impressed Mr. Castro the most.  

In his interview with journalists he mentioned that development rates of science in Tatarstan are high. Obviously, substantial contribution to the common goal, from his point of view, is made by scientists of Kazan University. "I hope that from year to year KFU and research centers of Cuban Republic will find new vectors for the cooperation development" - resumed Republic of Cuba President's education advisor.

He is an active member of Cuba's Academy of Science, Dr.Sci. in physics and mathematics. In 70-ies he studied at Physics Faculty of Moscow State and worked at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna.

From 1980 he has worked for 12 years as an executive secretary of Cuban Atomic Energy Commission and participated actively in developing and putting into action of Cuban nuclear program. 

Mr. Castro defended his PhD dissertation in Kurchatov Institute and is an author of several books and more than 150 articles about atomic energy and philosophical aspects of modern physics.
