Professor Steffen Lempp at KFU

Professor Steffen Lempp (Department of Mathematics, University of Wisconsin) visited Kazan Federal University on August, 10.

University of Wisconsin-Madison is a public research university in USA. It was founded in 1848. The University is organized into 20 schools and enrolls 42,595 students in undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs (autumn-2010). The University is a pioneer in stem cell research. In 2010, it had research expenditures of more than 1 billion dollars. The position of the University of Wisconsin in the international rankings is: № 27 according to Times Higher Education-2011, № 41 according to QS-2011, № 13 in the world and № 9 in the USA in ARWU-2011 (Academic Ranking of World Universities).

Professor Lempp met Rector Ilshat Gafurov, Vice-Rector for International Relations Linar Latypov, Director of N. Lobachevsky Institute of Mechanics and Mathematics Vladimir Chugunov and Head of Department of Algebra and Mathematical Logic Marat Arslanov.

Steffen Lempp told that his first visit to the capital of Tatarstan took place in 1991. He came to Kazan State University to attend the conference in 1997.

The purpose of this visit is to work with KFU colleagues, in particular with Marat Arslanov, Head of Department of Algebra and Mathematical Logic.

Marat Arslanov emphasized that the conference organized in 1997 was attended by more than 30 leading scientists from all over the world. Steffen Lempp supported the conference financially.

"KFU scientists often visit University of Wisconsin.  Today at the meeting with the rector of our university we decided to sign MOU between our universities. Apart from mathematical logic and algebra we would like to attract other research areas such as bioinformatics and bioengineering into this cooperation. We have great hopes on the energy and activity of Professor Lempp", Marat Arslanov said.

After the meeting Vice-Rector for International Relations Linar Latypov made a tour of Kazan University’s Museum of History for the guest.
