Winning G8 Grant

Research group from the Institute of Fundamental medicine and Biology at Kazan Federal University in cooperation with research centers from Germany, USA and Japan won the competition of complex research projects 2012 – “Effectiveness of materials as the first step of sustainable production”. The completion was organized by G8 countries and the grant received the name - G8 - similarly.

“Multisized “smart” coatings with lasting anti-corrosion effect” is the name of the project which unites scientists of Kazan University (headed by Doctor of Science in Biology Rawil Fakhrullin), Max-Plank Institute of Colloids and Interfaces,  Institute of Micromanufacturing, Louisiana Tech University and National Institute for Materials Science (Japan).

The task of Kazan University is to evaluate the toxicity of nano-structured coatings on human and aquatic ecosystems. "Our team has been engaged in studying aspects of interaction between nanomaterials and living organisms at different levels (from individual cells to organisms). For us this victory in the competition is important because under the grant we will conduct research with leading research groups, occupy a leading position in nanotechnology. This will allow us to adopt the best practices of our colleagues and abroad, exchange ideas and conduct training of staff”.
