Deputy Minister of Higher Education in Cuba Gil Ramón González, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Emilio Lozada Garcia, representative of the Ministry of Higher Education in Cuba Raul Hernandez Perez were among honorary guests at the Forum.

KFU Rector Ilshat Gafurov shared with the audience the progress of the relations between Cuba and Tatarstan. During the period from 1978 to 1988, 250 Cubans successfully passed the qualifying exams and received their diplomas at Kazan University. It is worth noting that the organization of Kazan University alumni is quite active in Cuba.

According to the rector, the universities of Russia and Cuba are facing challenges in enhancing cooperation and renewal of existing relationships. First steps have already been made in this direction. In November 2014 during the visit of Kazan University to Cuba the parties signed a cooperation agreement between the University of Havana and the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

In his speech, Emilio Lozada Garcia emphasized that Cuba will always remember with gratitude the fact that in the most challenging times for Cuba in the 80-s and 90-s, the President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev gave his full support to Cuba.

The culmination of the first part of the Forum was the signing of cooperation agreement between KFU and Higher Institute of Applied Science and Technology of the Republic of Cuba and the University of Information Technologies of the Republic of Cuba.

Further forum members continued to discuss prospects of cooperation in the roundtable.
