The annual seminar on gravity, astrophysics and cosmology was conducted on December 5th – 10th.
The conference is named after Aleksei Petrov (1910 - 1972), physicist and mathematician known for his work on gravity. He was the founder of the Department of Gravity and Relativity Theory of KFU and headed it in 1960 – 1970. Asya Aminova, Professor of said department and Petrov’s student, talked about his life and scientific discoveries during the opening ceremony.
The School was first held in winter in 2014 and is a continuation of similar events previously held almost every summer since 1987. This particular iteration attracted more than 60 young scientists and students from Russia and Belarus. Renowned experts from Russia, Spain, Brazil, and Japan gave lectures. Astrophysicist Alexei Starobinsky, Academician of RAS, Head of SAU AstroChallenge, was the honorary guest of the event.
Petrov School is one of many events held within the AstroChallenge framework. Such interdisciplinary seminars have a positive influence on educational processes and research not only in the abovementioned areas but also in adjacent spheres, such as instrumentation technology, geophysics, etc.
