On September 8-11 KFU Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies ran a qualification upgrading course for computer modelling technologies experts.
Lectures were delivered by Drarko Spahic, Senior Regional Geologist and Petroleum System Analyst, and Maria Chernukha, Geologist, from Schlumberger Limited. They presented the attendees Petromod software developed by Schlumberger Limited.
Basin and petroleum system modeling allows geoscientists to examine the dynamics of sedimentary basins and their associated fluids to determine if past conditions were suitable for hydrocarbons to fill potential reservoirs and be preserved there.
PetroMod petroleum systems modeling software combines seismic, well, and geological information to model the evolution of a sedimentary basin. The software predicts if, and how, a reservoir has been charged with hydrocarbons, including the source and timing of hydrocarbon generation, migration routes, quantities, and hydrocarbon type in the subsurface or at surface conditions.
According to the cooperation agreement between Kazan University and Schlumberger Limited, 3D GEO Centre received their software including Petromod for all working stations. The software of this enterprise is actively used for teaching students.
KFU and Schlumberger Limited discussed prospective joint activities in geological and basin and petroleum system modelling using 3D GEO Centre facilities.
