On July, 30 Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation announced on the official website that salaries of academic staff would be doubled from September, 2013.
Basic average salaries of professors are to be raised by 2.4. The new salary amounts to 26,900 rubles. Assistant professors will receive 18,800 rubles (increase by 2.2 times). Lecturers and assistant lecturers will receive 12,100 and 11,000 rubles accordingly (1.8 and 1.7 increase accordingly).
The Ministry notes that the salary of professors shouldn’t be less than an average salary in the region for professors and not less than 75% from an average salary for assistant professors. Thus, a professor in Moscow will receive 58,700 rubles, in Saint-Petersburg – 37,100 rubles at average. According to the Ministry’s information, the biggest salary (70,700 rubles) will be in Chukotka, the smallest one - in Dagestan (16,500 rubles).
The Ministry declares these figures to have been defined as a result of monitoring of the state universities. The salaries are average in region and each university will determine the salaries individually.
