The sides agreed to establish cooperation in automotive engineering.
The delegation arrived to KFU to find out about possible areas of mutual interest. A meeting between Rector Ilshat Gafurov and President Yu Ji-soo was held on July 31st.
Dr. Gafurov talked about the University’s history and plans with a special focus on ties with business. President Yu noted that academic cooperation may be a catalyst for new links between companies of the two countries.
Rector Gafurov noted that Kookmin University is known for its automotive engineering research and development. KFU is involved in the industry in cooperation with KAMAZ at Naberezhnye Chelny Institute.
As such, future mutual interest spheres have been outlined. The work will concentrate, in particular, in automotive design, driverless cars, and alternative fuels. Automotive companies from South Korea and Russia will be invited to join in.
Rector Gafurov also proposed to make video conference meetings a regular thing. The first personal acquaintance will take place in September 2017 at KFU. Joint workshops are planned for this meeting.
The Korean delegation will wrap the visit up on August 1st after visiting several institutes and learning more about potential common ground for future visits with more detailed offers.
