Representatives from the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology had a series of unique internships in the sphere of palaeoecology in world leading research centers
Nafis Mukhametgaliev, student from the Department of Botany, had an internship in Saint Petersburg State University under the supervision of one of the country`s leading palynologist – senior research associate of the Russian and German laboratory “Geomorphologic and Paleogeographic studies of polar regions and World Ocean” Associate Professor Savelieva L. The student studied the method of sporo-pollen analysis of quaternary deposit, prepared and processed more than 80 samples taken from bottom of lakes in Russian northern regions.
Post-graduate student of the Department of Biological Resources and Aquaculture Llilya Gafiatullina and junior research associate from the Russian Research Laboratory “Palaeoecology - VP” Oleg Tumanov had an internship in the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar- and Marine Research (Postdam, Germany). Their internships were conducted under supervision of the Associate Professor of the Department of Biological Resources and Aquaculture Frolova L., from KFU side, and Professor Ulrike Herzschuh, from the German Research Center side. Llilya mastered the methods of studying plankton community of lakes in polar regions and, in the first place, lakes in Northern-Eastern Yakutia.
For Nafis Mukhametgaliev and Liliya Gafiatullina trainings became possible due to grants of Federal Target Program “Research, Research and Pedagogical staff of innovative Russia” of Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation. Oleg Tumanov`s training was realized within Program of KFU Development for increasing the qualification and professional training of Faculty members, research and administrative staff at KFU. Young scientist researched zoobenthos communities in bottom deposits of lakes in Kamchatka and Northern Ural under supervision of leading scientists in this sphere: members of the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar- and Marine Research- Nazarova L. and Dickman B. Works of these scholars are familiar to Kazan students and specialists, in November, 2012 Nazarova L. visited KFU and delivered public lectures on the latest achievements in the sphere of study and reconstruction climate.
According to the results of these trainings there will be made publications in international top-rated magazines and electronic educational resource for distant training of KFU students “Preparation and development of palaeozoologic collection of chironomids for using in palaeoecological studies and reconstruction of climatic changes”.
To sum up the results of these trainings, we can state that these programs will lead to establishment of new scientific contacts between our Alma-mater and world leading research centers.
