Weightlifter Dmitry Khomyakov will be the standard-bearer of the Russian team at the opening ceremony of the World Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan.
Dmitry Khomyakov is a student of Kazan Federal University, a master of sports in weightlifting. He is the European champion in weightlifting in the category up to 77 kg.
The Russian team is represented by 663 athletes including 18 Olympic champions and 105 honored masters of sports. According to Oleg Matyzin, FISU Vice-President, the strongest competitors for Russia are China, Korea, USA, Ukraine, Japan (the second team in number of participants).
