Kazan University and the journal signed a relevant agreement.
The signatories were Vice-Rector for Foreign Relations Linar Latypov and Editor-in-Chief of “Islam in the Modern World” Damir Mukhetdinov.
The journal is currently the only one on Islamic theology included in the Higher Attestation Commission’s list of recognized peer-reviewed journals. (The list includes journals to which PhD candidates and DSci candidates must submit their papers to fill their respective quotas of publications before becoming eligible for thesis presentation).
Medina Publishing House, the publisher of «Islam in the Modern World», is supervised by Grand Mufti Rawil Gaynetdin and Kazan University. The University plans to establish a dissertation council in theology in the nearest future. It also is a participant of the federal program of education of professionals with advanced knowledge of Muslim history and culture.
The opening representative office will soon recruit experts to form a council. The agreement on this matter was reached by Vice-Editor of the journal, Chairman of the Department of Education, Science and Culture of the Muslim Spiritual Administration of Russia Shamil Kashaf and Chairman of the Council on Islamic Education, Rector of the Russian Islamic Institute (Kazan) Rafik Mukhametshin.
One such office was already established at Bashkir State Pedagogical University (Ufa). Several others are also in the works – at Pyatigorsk State University, Academy of Sciences of Chechnya, Dagestan State University, and Saint-Petersburg State University.
The editorial board consists of many notable academics, including Rawil Gaynetdin, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Saint-Petersburg State University Mikhail Piotrovsky, Rector of Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichy, Rector of Kazan Federal University Ilshat Gafurov, Director of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies Ramil Khayrutdinov, and others.
