IOI 2016 closing ceremony was held on August 18th.
Among those who visited were Rector Ilshat Gafurov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Russia Yekaterina Tolstikova, Prime Minister of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov, Minister of Information and Communication of Tatarstan Roman Shaykhutdinov, and First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Tatarstan Andrey Pominov.
More than 300 students from 81 countries contested for the most prestigious school programming award. Russian team performed very well, with one bronze medal (Askhat Sakhabiev from KFU Lobachevsky Lyceum), four silver medals (Denis Solonkov, Stanislav Naumov, Alexandra Drozdova, Mikhail Anoprenko), and three golds (Vladislav Makeev, Mikhail Putilin, Grigory Reznikov). Russia came second in team competition after China, 2017 hosts Iran were third. Jin Ce from China became the absolute champion with astonishing 597 points out of maximum 600.
The closing ceremony concluded with a flag handover. Rector Gafurov, Deputy Minister Tolstikova, President of IOI Krasimir Manev, and Chairman of IOI 2016 Vladimir Kiryukhin gave the flag to the Iranian delegation.
