Days of Portuguese Culture is an unprecedented event not only for the University but for Kazan too. The organizers of the event are the EU Centre VOICES and Information Centre at KFU.
April 11 - João Mendonça, a lecturer from Moscow University (since 2004) and Diplomacy Academy (since 2008) delivered a presentation to students and faculty of KFU "Portuguese culture in Europe and the world: a historical perspective". In a fascinating manner he gave the overview of the spread of Portuguese culture around the world. The guest described the economic situation of the country, in particular, it was interesting to learn that 14 per cent of olive oil, consumed by Russians, comes from Portugal. Portugal sells shoes to more than 100 million people around the world, and on the other hand, is a world leader in production of renewable energy sources.
João Mendonça also talked about the recession and pointed out the changes that took place in Portugal since its entry into the European Union.
The manner of presentation, great knowledge of the Russian language attracted listeners, and on the same evening fans of Portuguese culture gathered again to watch the film "America" about the fate of Russian immigrants in Portugal.
The 3-day experience included seminars, cultural evening events, lectures and watching Portuguese film with English subtitles.
