The research work of the scientists of the Department contribute significantly to the solution of environmental problems of the RT and RF. The staff (Prof. O. Ermolaev, the supervisor, Prof. N. Torsuev, V. Belonogov, Associate Professor) were awarded the State Prize of theRepublicofTatarstanin the field of science and technology for the research “Development and implementation of geographic information systems for planning and implementation of environmental protection measures in the southeast of theRepublicofTatarstan”. These studies have been further developed in the specialized environmental GIS of oil and gas companies of regional and local generalization levels.
The Department works out the methodology and methods of environmental assessment of investment projects and integration of environmental constraints of various types of economic activity. The scientists do research and production works in environmental consequences of the development of bitumen; creation of a computerized workplace of an ecologist at the enterprises of Tatneft Ltd.; introduction of GIS technology into the system of sound environmental management of oil and gas complex; feasibility demonstration of the general sanitary protection zone in the Special Economic Zone “Alabuga”, etc. The work done for the real sector of economy allowed the Department to join the university leaders in this area.
The results of the scientific and industrial research work of the Department allowed to register 9 certificates of authorship and patents in the Rospatent.
The Department believes the development of its research work will be carried out in the labs of “Eco-Geo Morphology”, “Hydroecology of Basinal Geosystems” and “Geo-Eco Engineering” that are equipped with world-level facilities which allow to do research in geography and geoecology.
