The Department of Foreign Languages is one of the departments of the Institute of Philology and Arts.
The Department provides teacher training at the faculties where a foreign language is a subsidiary subject and teaches the English language at the faculties of the Humanities. Among the graduates there are a number of leading English teachers at schools and institutions of higher education of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The staff of the Department consists of 11 teachers: 1 Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, 1 Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, 4 Candidates of Philological Sciences (4 associate professors, 5 senior lecturers, 2 assistants).
Nowadays the Department realizes the following professional training programmes:
for Bachelors: “Philological Education” (vocational and educational training profile: Russian and Foreign Languages); “Pedagogical Education” (vocational and educational training profile: Russian and Foreign Languages; Russian Language and Literature; Music Education; Arts Education; Choreographic Art; Design);
for Specialists: “Russian Language and Literature with English as a subsidiary subject”.
The following courses are taught: Methodology of the English Language Teaching; Translation Theory and Practice, Stylistics, Phonetics, Lexicology, the History of the English Language, Cultural Linguistics, Text Typology, Grammar, and more than 10 elective courses.
To make the educational process more effective the staff constantly update the learning content to reflect the specificities of each profile according to the requirements of modern approach to education, use modern and innovative Information and Communication Technologies in the educational process (licensed computer software, an interactive whiteboard, projector screens, portable projectors, Internet resources, printers, scanners), develop strategies to improve the quality of professional training largely due to their scientific research and methodology work.
The results of the scientific research of the staff and students are published in the annual collection of scientific papers “Foreign Languages at School and University: modernizing the content and technologies”.
