The Department in its current form has been in existence since 2010.
Our main research area are ecological and biological aspects of the structural and functional organization of living systems.
Specific research topics:
- Study of adaptive responses of native and alien species of woody plants in the man-made environment of the Middle Volga region (Associate Professor P.A. Kuzmin, PhD);
- Analysis of the flora and fauna of the Lower Kama region (population structure, phenetic variability, morphological and physiological adaptation); bioindication and biological testing (Associate Professor V. V. Leontiev, PhD);
- Monitoring and biodiversity conservation of the avifauna of the Republic of Tatarstan (R.H. Bekmansurov).
Monitoring and Protection of Birds Lab, a zoological museum, a library, and an experimental land plot are all administered by the Department.
Summer field practices on invertebrate zoology and botany (1st year students), vertebrate zoology and botany (2nd year students), general ecology (3rd year students) are held on the premises of Burevestnik Camp.
Kazan University's White Sea Medical and Biological Station also welcomes our students during their annual trips.
EcoDOS is a students' environment protection society whose members are involved in educational activities.
