There are several specialties and bachelor/master degree programs in Institute of physics.

Bachelor of physics, bachelor of radiophysics, bachelor in geodesy and  bachelor of technology are 4-year courses. After a 4-year course students may apply for a master's degree.

To specialize in astronomy students may choose a 5-year course which results in receiving a specialist diploma.

First years are devoted to Physics, Mathematics and general subjects such as History and Philosophy. These subjects serve as the basis for the future researcher's world outlook. A wide equipment base allows students to observe physical phenomena without leaving the class.

In the process of education and in their scientific work students make full use of modern information technology (computer classes, Internet, videoconferences).

In the third year of education students choose a department and along with general courses and start studying subjects according to their profile. Students of astronomical department begin studying according to their profiles at the first course.

On receiving the diploma students may opt for continuing their education as post-graduates. Course durations are 3 years (full-time) and 4 years (correspondence course).

Postgraduate education is individual while all the programs are in line with the main areas of research in the Institute. Each postgraduate student must pass several credits and examinations and prepare a dissertation under the supervision of one of Institute's leading professors.

A correspondence course introduced in cooperation with Japan's leading research institute RIKEN allows students to get two certificates – Russian candidate of science and PhD.

A new bachelor course “Nano- and microsystem technology” has been introduced in 2011, being the most promising research field in electronics for the next few decades.

Nanotechnologies allow researchers to manipulate with single atoms and molecules and develop new structures and materials with properties unattainable through applying common techniques.

Nanotechnologies operate with particles with sizes between 1 and 100 nanometers. Quantum-mechanical effects become apparent, which makes it possible to create materials with unprecedented solidity, flexibility, magnetic softness etc. Nanotechnologies are a way to record-breaking operation speeds, sizes and power consumption.

Kazan state university invests sufficient funds in researches and specialists training in the field of nanotechnologies. New expensive equipment from abroad is being bought. All of this allows Institute of physics to provide the quality of specialist training sufficient to satisfy the demands of the leading scientific, technologic and industrial centers in Russian Federation and all over the world.

Post-Graduate Studies (3 years of study for full-time training, 4 years of study for extra-mural training)

Post-Graduate Education is provided according to individual plans based on programmes, which correspond to main scientific fields offered by the Department. Within the period of study post-graduate students must pass several tests and examinations and write a dissertation under supervision of leading professors of the Department.

The programme of joint post-graduate student training is successfully implemented in the Institute of Physics in co-operation with the leading scientific research institute of Japan – RIKEN Institute of Research in Physics and Chemistry. In the framework of this programme post-graduate students have an opportunity to simultaneously get two diplomas – the diploma of a Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and the international PhD-degree diploma.
