The facility serves primarily for:

• fundamental and applied research in the area of introduction, reintroduction and acclimatization of plants; botany, ecology, plant physiology, protection and sustainable use of plant resources,
• plant breeding, seed production and plant biotechnology, horticulture and landscape architecture;
• optimizing crop production technologies and distribution of commercially valuable plant groups
• .training of highly qualified specialists majoring in Health Care and Biology by an in-depth study of academic disciplines and the development of promising research;

With the aim of creating an innovative framework for the educational process at Kazan Federal University, the Botanical Garden stands as a ground for practical laboratory classes in botany, dendrology, floriculture, genetics, breeding and seed production, entomology, plant pathology and plant protection. In addition, it carries out career guidance to students of secondary and special education.

The Botanical Garden also takes part in gardening and landscaping of KFU campus and provides special care for green spaces on the campus.
