Center for Environmental History was established in June 2014.  Its main objective is the development of cooperation between Russian and foreign researchers, joint research projects and activities in environmental history, as well as general management of research activity of the staff, students and PhD candidates in the interaction between man and nature in the historical past.

Environmental history is a branch of historical science that studies the interaction between man and nature. It has gained a foothold in the Russian academic circles. Thanks to the work of several researchers Elabuga Institute has become one of the centers of this new discipline in Russia.

The Center's work is based on cooperation with Russian and foreign scientific and educational institutions (European Society for Environmental History, University of York, University of Mississippi, and others) representatives of which are the Advisory Committee members.
