The Chair of the Tatar Language and Literature was founded in 1958. The heads of the chair were M.G. Faizullina (1958-1967), T.N. Galiullin (1975-1986), L.Sh. Arslanov (1986-1992), R.G. Salikhov (1992-1996), N.Kh. Laisov (1996-2000). A.Kh. Zainullina (2000-2001). F.G. Galliamov (2001-2011), G.F. Dautov (2012-2019).

In 2010, as a result of the merger of the chair of the Tatar language and Tatar literature, the chair of Tatar philology was organised.
