The major courses provided by the Department include the geology, cartography and topography, Earth sciences, physical geography of continents and oceans, physical geography of Russia, soil geography and agrology, biogeography, geoecology, regional ethnography, etc.

The major research areas of the Department are:

Professional training of geography teachers;

Hierarchical analysis of natural objects and social systems;

Ecological diagnostics and assessment of the intensity of environmental use in the Republic of Tatarstan;

Researching the quality of urban territories (ecological analysis and nature-society balance).
